| About Profiles | Gram Positive | Gram Negative
This site was created for anyone interested in learning about Microbiology. Currently we provide information on some of the thousands of forms of bacteria. As we develop, this site will provide extensive information on a much wider range of bacteria. In the future, we will also extend the service to include viruses, fungi, protozoa and parasites.
Bacteria are grouped into families and further subdivided into genera and finally species. Due to the enormous amount of information available on bacteria, trying to compare different groups of bacteria can become very confusing.
To make it easier, Microbionet has created a standard format for presenting the information that we call a 'profile.' Each profile contains the same subject headings: classification, biochemistry, genetics, serology, virulence factors, normal flora, pathogens, laboratory diagnosis of infections, environmental aspects, industrial uses and vaccines. This style of presentation should make it easy for users to find the information they want and to compare organisms.
Profiles are provided at either the genera or species level. Where information in one of the categories is lacking, we have specifically stated 'No information is available.'
Please let us know if this use of profiles has helped you, and how we may improve them. Information will be added regarding other families as well as further profiles for genera and species in the near future.
